Another day has gone (cue some Michael Jackson tunes) and it’s already our second Friday in quarantine. Personal record. We are becoming veterans compared to the rest of the world, which is one whole week behind, and are becoming major fans of spending Friday night at home.
First of all, it’s the safest place to be. And, second, there are so many things to do a casa, and it’s not just laundry (in fact, you can now wear the same clothes for days on end, and no one will care). Especially nowadays, everyone is putting their talents to good use, and Facebook has basically turned into the world’s best open mic night. I have watched zero Netflix these days, and have instead been watching all the content my friends have been producing, which is way better. This must be how celebrities are feeling when they watch a film with their friends (Timotheé Chalamet) in it. Not everyone will get it, but you are all so talented guys!
The fridge is fully stocked, and so are the supermarkets though the queues are getting longer. Thankfully all those years of practice outside Berghain are finally paying off. You basically shouldn’t talk to anyone, it’s better if you’re alone, the dress code is shabby-chic, facewear is encouraged, and you must patiently wait to get in. It didn’t rain today, but it was a bit grey, which meant no balcony time for me. The weather is still getting warmer though, and the proof was the two mosquitoes that we violently killed in our apartment last night. In some places, the appearance of swallows may be a sign of the arrival of spring, but here it’s definitely mosquitoes. Italian mosquitoes are so aggressive that last summer a visiting friend described them as all you can eat. Imagine a person on a diet binge-eating after having six glasses of gin & tonic, and you get the picture.
Speaking of visiting friends, choosing to move to Milan, especially given the current situation, may have sabotaged all future visits from friends since I have a feeling the option in coming years will be as appealing as going to Chernobyl for a cooking class. Maybe fashion week will keep it all going, though I do wonder what all the models are eating these days.
The lockdown is bound to get stricter next week, but I expect the people who will notice a change in their day-to-day are the same ones who also still think the earth is flat.
Discussing this with someone, we said the world (apart from China), is essentially like one big boat, and we’re all in it together. This was the moment I started feeling like the string quartet in the Titanic. Fret not, I will continue playing until this boat sinks.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Lunch: Omelette with radicchio and fennel (? not sure, I didn’t make it, work was busy, it was tasty)
Song of the day: Rhythm of the Night
