A tardy one today, but good things come to those who wait (or, as a teacher once told me for a coursework submission at 23:59 on deadline day, better late than never).
Life in lockdown is continuing normally, and we’re enjoying doing non-Corona related activities, like working, cooking, going to the grocery store, making and listening to music, and having some meetings or video calls. My friends still want to talk to me, which is a good sign.
I feel like I’m in a Sandra Bullock film, who always manages to get trapped in various locations: a house (in Bird Box), a bus (in Speed), or outer space (in Gravity). I wonder what would be worse, seeing my worst fears manifesting in front of my eyes or being trapped with George Clooney in a tiny space vehicle, performing an endless orbit around the planet.
The other half went to the grocery store today, where a lady in the queue outside started a casual conversation with him by asking whether wearing his sunglasses with his mask on made the lenses foggy. A valid question, though apparently he was caught off guard. His answer to her question was “Yes”, but he did not tell her that if her breath was making her glasses foggy then she was wearing her mask all wrong. The reason behind his answer is probably because this is new information also for him (hello to my fans! See you in hell.)
Meanwhile, I discovered that the HBO series Westworld has restarted, which was joyous news. Nothing beats an imaginary world filled with aggressive robots, where real and fake life merge into one, to make you feel more normal about being an extra in what seems like the world’s most boring sci-fi film after Contact, in which Jodie Foster spends its entirety getting really excited about white noise (good film though).
Here’s a thought: since the Olympics have now been postponed (apparently the news was shared by someone called Dick Pound, which everyone found amusing apart from me), I think we should all co-host the first-ever Sporting from Home Olympics. I will start thinking of possible sports, and share them with you in the coming days, but feel free to contribute.
Lunch: Asparagus with egg and parma ham, plus yesterday’s leftovers (no onions were caramelised in this process)
Song of the day: Cher - Turn Back Time
