Earlier, I referenced Groundhog Day as the perfect film to summarise my current situation. In some ways, it’s true: I speak to the same people every day, I see the same things, and my uncle consistently calls me to tell me I’m putting my life at risk and I should leave on the next available flight (in 2022, when the airports reopen and quarantine will have ended).
Right now, however, it’s like I’m watching constant reruns of Titanic, dubbed in different languages. You know all the touching moments that will come, like Rose jumping back on board from the lifeboat because she’d rather stay with Jack than save her life (AKA people clapping on balconies all over the world for their heroic healthcare workers). But you watch it and shed a little tear anyway.
Allegedly, in some countries the clapping wasn’t as powerful or touching as expected, but that’s because everyone was too busy playing neighbourhood bingo.
Either way, the morale of Rose’s story remains encouraging: this ship can sink, but we shall live to tell the tale. Also, kudos to Kate Winslet for practicing social distancing on that massive plank of wood with Leo freezing to death in the chilly waters of the Atlantic.
Having gone past all the trends of music-playing, balcony-clapping, flashmobbing and everything in between (no bingo sadly,) my neighborhood has just been very quiet for days, apart from dogs barking. Although I do often I think it’s just the same dog seeing its reflection in shop windows, or being really upset at its owner for taking it for a walk for the twelfth time on the same day. I get tired with two legs, I can’t imagine what it must be like to have four.
I can’t wait for Letters from Quarantine day 30,641 (yes, I calculated that), so I can say…

What’s better than Harvey Weinstein getting Coronavirus?
Boris Johnson getting Coronavirus.
And what trumps Boris Johnson getting Coronavirus? Oops, I gave myself away there.
Lunch: Black eyed beans with tuna (yes, we have had this before, but you can’t have too much of a good thing)
Song of the day: The Irrepressibles - Let Go (music video made by my amazing friend, also featuring some more of my amazing friends)
