A third, glorious week in lockdown here in Italy comes to an end. I started this Sunday with a spiritual awakening; being woken up by the persistent cacophony of the neighbourhood church bells. I am not exactly sure how many churches they have in Italy, but the short answer is: a lot. The frequency per square kilometre resembles that of the number of times Trump will say the word “huge” in a span of ten minutes: too many, yet definitely making a statement.
Our nearby church has the unique feature of having a preprogrammed song play at random times during the day, which means no one needs to physically be there to pull a string (is that how you ring church bells? My only reference is The Hunchback of Notre Dame). Although this is great for social distancing purposes, it is also catastrophic for everyone else’s mental health: I don’t know who made it, but the resulting song (?) sounds like the Exorcist theme being played on a major scale, but getting every 2 out of 5 notes wrong.
The clocks moved forward today. Enjoy longer days, and one hour less in self-isolation (yes, this is incorrect, but everyone needs some fake news once every now and then). The passing of time becomes such a bizarre concept after a few weeks in quarantine. Once I stopped leaving the house, time turned into me trying to do yoga: it begins to stretch, but eventually collapses on itself.
The most incredible thing is that the space-time continuum has been so disturbed lately, that even on my social media live feeds strange things start to happen. I see people from the same, locked down country, documenting their time in quarantine on the same day, and on that very same day, you will see someone posting a story from ‘Quarantine day 11’, and someone else posting a story from ‘Quarantine day 3’. If someone figures out the solution to this riddle, please let me know.
The people hosting barbecues with their friends during the lockdown are the same people who will go to this without looking at the date:
What’s everyone been doing with their toilet paper?
Lunch: Poached eggs, bacon with maple syrup and smashed avocado on toast
Song of the day: Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time (with Tubular Bells a close runner up)
