Day 32, also known as Thursday, the 9th of April, was nothing special at all, and passed like many others. At home, working, working out, having many video calls with colleagues and family, having lunch, making dinner, having wine, and watching the final episode of Tiger King, which has been one of the main achievements of this lockdown.
It’s starting to get quite hot here in quarantine (and possibly outside, too, but who knows), which leaves no doubt that apart from all the other things that have happened since lockdown started, we also managed to change seasons. Another achievement!
Speaking of achievements, somewhere in Italy, and since the weather has been pleasant, a lady sat on a bus for four hours, going nowhere in particular. She said she did this because she wanted to be outside, or maybe she was just sick of her husband. Between the motion-sickness potential of being stuck on a bus with the premise of Italian driving, which involves fast acceleration and not changing gears throughout the journey, or being stuck at home and feeling the vibrations of the tram every seven minutes, I would definitely opt for the latter.
At least this lady’s story is not as bad as that of the lady who took a taxi from Milan to Rome to escape the lockdown in Lombardy, and thus became the unofficial winner of the 2020 Darwin Award. Needless to say, the bus lady still got fined. The taxi lady only had to pay a €1,200 fare, to go to a region that was also placed in lockdown a day later, so she fined herself.
Some people are less risk-friendly than others. Today I also discovered that The All England Lawn Tennis Association, the company that organises Wimbledon, has been paying $2m worth of insurance every year for the past seventeen years, in case the tournament had to be postponed because of a pandemic. This is the same amount of dedication, responsibility, and paranoia shown as that of any young, virgin, high-school couple that has been together for seventeen years, is now married with two (planned) kids, but has nonetheless always insisted on using a condom.
Wimbledon has now received a $141m payout. Maybe I should get some insurance and sit on that balcony of mine.
Lunch: Piadina with ham, spinach, and some herby cheese that we bought in Aosta
