Today was a glorious, sunny day, which inspired all the neighbours to perform their favourite, loudest activities: vacuum cleaning, drilling, running around the house upstairs. The neighbour that bangs our ceiling played Volare again. I must have missed some flashmob memo, or this is officially Groundhog Day.
This was our second Monday in quarantine, and you can feel the novelty wearing off, which we try to revive by using virtual backgrounds and sharing many memes on Slack. There are many, many memes. I’ve also discovered that you can use animojis while chatting on Facetime, though turning my face into a skull turned out to be too dark of a joke even for my mum (for the record, I thought it was funny).
In my fridge, inspired by Boris Johnson, I’ve started playing the new version of the Hunger Games: deciding what should go and what should stay, using up the limited, valuable space that is available. Since today was so sunny, I took out a bottle of Brut and replaced it with a bottle of peach iced tea, which is interestingly branded as ‘zero’, but contains roughly 30 calories per portion (not that I’m counting). I think here they put sugar even in water. Either way, my body will thank me later.
In fact, even the world is supporting me in my quest to stay lean: a friend wanted to send me cookies, but they suspended all postal flights to Italy. Between us, I always found Coelho a bit of a fraud, but if you really want something to happen, the universe really does conspire in your favour.
Out on the streets, there were a few people walking dogs, who are probably having the time of their lives right now. To be honest, if the world ends and we are outlived by our pets, no one should complain.
Last but not least, though it sounds highly feasible (for someone who would also eat bat soup, at least), drinking cow urine will almost certainly not cure Covid-19.
I think I’ll put the Brut back in the fridge.

What are everyone’s plans for 2021?
Lunch: Tuna salad (a successful attempt in using expired salad leaves, making space in the fridge and reducing waste - winning!) with a boiled egg and a Dijon vinaigrette dressing
Song of the day: Christine and the Queens - La Vita Nuova
